Adidas and Opening Ceremony team up for 2012 Olympics line

The 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer will provide the inspiration for a new range of clothing.

New York retailer Opening Ceremony has been selected by adidas Original as its partner for the streetwear line, which will be inspired by the international sporting event and classic adidas designs.

A total of 100 pieces to suit all seasons will be created by the two companies, with articles of footwear and clothing included in the capsule collection.

From July 2012 it will be sold across the Opening Ceremony chain and in selected adidas stores.

Speaking to Women's Wear Daily, Dirk Schoenberger, creative director of Opening Ceremony, said: "The idea of Opening Ceremony re-creating adidas Originals products with their creative sensibility in mind was something that intrigued us."

The recent Bread & Butter exhibition during Berlin Fashion Week saw adidas Originals present its 2012 fall/winter line.

Targeted at the premium end of the brand, the range included design collaborations with David Beckham, Ransom and Jeremy Scott, in addition to highlights from the Originals Denim and Blue collections.

Sportswear giant adidas has also revealed this month that it has signed a tier one sponsorship deal with the British Olympic Association.

Covering 2013-2016, the agreement extends a 28-year relationship between the two organisations.

It is the first tier one sponsorship pact signed by the BOA and includes licensing and marketing rights to Team GB and the provision of sportswear requirements for the body, including leisure and competition wear for athletes attending the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the Sochi 2014 Winter Games.

"Our long partnership also means that adidas brings vast experience in terms of supplying high-performance sportswear for an incredibly diverse range of summer and winter Olympic sports," explained BOA chief executive Andy Hunt.

"Furthermore, adidas provides Team GB with industry leading innovation and technology as well as operational and logistical support."
